Definition of ITIN
ITIN, short for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, is a unique nine-digit number issued by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for tax purposes. This number is provided to foreign individuals who are not eligible to obtain a Social Security Number (SSN).
The Importance of ITIN
An ITIN is essential for individual taxpayers when filing tax returns or applying for refunds/credits with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It may also be required when opening a U.S. bank account, starting a U.S. credit history, engaging in U.S. business and employment activities, determining U.S. health insurance eligibility, or conducting real estate transactions or business activities.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Answer: As a general rule, ITIN applicants are required to submit their original passports to the IRS when applying for an ITIN. However, if you use the CAA service, the CAA certifies the original passport and returns it to the applicant, using a certified copy of the passport for the application. Therefore, the ITIN applicant does not need to submit the original passport directly to the IRS. Based on business days, it may take at least 7 to 11 weeks to receive the ITIN. However, additional delivery time may be required.
Answer: No, we cannot accept such requests. We proceed with the ITIN application according to the procedures set by the IRS, and we can only sign the documents as a CAA after verifying the client's identity and reviewing the application and supporting documents.
Answer: A person cannot have two Tax IDs, so they must be consolidated into one. If you receive an SSN after using an ITIN, you should visit the Social Security Administration (SSA) office to consolidate your ITIN with your SSN. Once you have received an SSN, you can no longer use or apply for an ITIN.
